The 28-year-old Norwegian, who won European gold and Olympic silver in the 400m hurdles last year, along with world indoor silver over 400m, will look to re-assert his dominance in Shanghai/Keqiao as he builds towards a tilt at a fourth world title in Tokyo later this year.
Warholm has been one of the sport’s biggest superstars for many years, having smashed his own 400m hurdles world record to win Olympic gold in Tokyo in a spectacular 45.94, which saw him named the 2021 Male Athlete of the Year by World Athletics.
In addition to his three world titles and three European titles in his specialist event, he also has won two European indoor titles over 400m. He has been a regular on the Wanda Diamond League circuit over the years, setting the first of his 400m hurdles world records in Oslo in 2021, while he has twice been crowned Diamond League champion – in 2019 and 2021. He holds four of the 10 fastest times in the history for the 400m hurdles.
