Record-Breaking Performances in Rabat

Stop number 3 of the Wanda Diamond League season delivered another spectacular evening of athletics in Rabat on Sunday, with seven meeting records rewritten as some of the world’s biggest stars produced outstanding performances across both track and field disciplines.

The field events set the tone early. In the men’s shot put, American Joe Kovacs launched a world-leading 22.58m to erase the previous meeting record that had stood since 2017. Fellow American Valarie Allman followed suit in the women’s discus, improving her own meeting mark with a winning throw of 68.75m.

The men’s 400m produced one of the performances of the night as Jacory Patterson stormed to victory in 44.11, holding off Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith and establishing a new meeting record. More records followed in the middle-distance events, where Switzerland’s Audrey Werro clocked 1:56.56 in the women’s 800m, while Olympic medalist Yared Nuguse raced to 3:30.35 in the men’s 1500m.

Sprint events also delivered memorable moments. Jamaica’s Tina Clayton led a clean sweep for her nation in the women’s 100m, crossing the line first in 10.85. Over the hurdles, Nigerian star Tobi Amusan continued her impressive form by setting a new meeting record of 12.28 in the women’s 100m hurdles.

Another long-standing mark fell in the men’s 200m. American Kenny Bednarek produced a dominant display, clocking 19.69 to better the meeting record that had stood for eight years and reinforce his status as one of the world’s leading sprinters.

Behind him, Germany’s Frederik Ruppert delivered a historic run, breaking the European record with 7:57.80. With records falling across the evening and athletes continuing to build momentum, Rabat delivered a spectacular night of athletics for fans worldwide. The ´Road to The Final´ is in full flight as this Thursday we continue the journey at the Golden Gala in Rome for our next Diamond League meet of 2026.
